Relations between Games, Parents, and Physical Violence
|
08-26-2008, 07:49 PM
|
These are some thoughts about the relationship between the argument, Violence in Video games. I was in English class when the thoughts came into my head.
If things don't seem like good grammar its because Im typing this directly off the paper I wrote it on. So there is no editing.
The relationship between video games and the supposed effects they have on kids and teens is there but is also not the cause of violence. I've begun to think that there are reasons to connect video games to physical violence in the real world. It's not that, "Oh they are young and think real life is like the video game, when you shoot somebody they will get back up." That is a completely bull shit lie. If by some chance it does become a fact it's not the video games fault. It's the parents. It's the parents fault because they let their under aged kid, since his brain hasn't fully developed, play games like Grand Theft Auto, Gears of War, or some pornographic game. They let him. If they would take the games away from the kid he wouldn't grow up like that.
The main reason that I believe cause physical violence in teens is depression. Video games leads to it but isn't the main source. Again everything about it leads back to the parents. I'll start in reverse to explain what I mean. When the kid shoots up some school or store or something it is due to depression which can be cause by lack of communication and seclusion to people. (I would know. I do it too) Because they are depressed is because of those two reasons. Those two reasons are caused by gamers. It can be any game. Violent or non-violent. [Add in]...{They also could have been teased at school because of physical features. Which can lead back to laziness. Which can also be playing video games}
The game can cause mental confusion if the person feels depressed and doesn't really know what's going on. Because they get so addicted or into the game they begin to think differently. They start to think that real life is like the game. Then it now leads to the parents and the games they let their children play. If parents know that their kid is depressed or is secluding him/herself from the world the parents need to take action against what their kid is doing. Take the games away! Take the controllers and the system away. Take the cds. The movies. Don't let your child have a chance to seclude themselves from reality. If they throw a fit then don't give them their shit back. Don't be afraid to bend your child over and spank them in the ass. They are never too old. IT'S NOT ABUSE!! It's called ****ing discipline. Use it. Your kids depressed? Take him to a ****ing doctor. A psychiatrist. A teen group. Something that will force your kid into the community and force them to be active. Whether they like it or not. Relationship between games and violence is big. But the main source is the parents.

I totally agree Stickman.
I remember back in the day.. all my friend including myself played outside. We hardly ever spent time at home. It was mostly spent with sports. Heck that is when Nintendo NES just came out.. but even then people hung out.
I think SNES came out, and most of us spent more time at home playing.
Gaming can be fun, but for some it's taken them away from the better parts of life... =\

I can relate to you on that as well. Me and my friend James, (Or Jing as everyone may know) used to run around everywhere. Cause I used to live on a farm, we had 10 acres and 6-7 barns to run around in and do whatever. Now that he's moved to Germantown and Im down in Cincinatti we are about more than an hour away from eachother. Im in college and he will be going to college down in Florida soon. But we would run around and just do whatever. Now that we can't really do that I have nothing to do but to play games, go to class and work. But Im working on finding something to do other than play games. Hoping to get a season pass to Kings Island. (Love that place!!)

True...
I agree games "can" cause seclusion, but in the end PEOPLE can change that themselves.
I just think you have to find a balance somewhere. So, that you can play video games... yet spend time outside.
I know the feeling stickman... the last 8 months for me have been that way. School..home...work.... repeat LOL..
I'm off school now.. so it should become home..work...fun...
hopefully...

I have no idea what college he is going to. Him and, who used to be Genetic Disaster on this site are both going down there and rooming. People are the ones who seclude themselves yes. But I think that the games also have an effect on that person. And could lead them to make that decision.

I remember when I was 8 and under I would ride my bike and play with my friends all the time. But sadly, all of my friends left town (there all about a 4 hour drive from where I am) and now that I'm out of school I don't get out much, honestly. My bike is also broken. But I do go to the park to play and I chase my little dog around out the back. So I'm not always inside, I guess...
